About
Teaching Faithful Men (TFM) is a ministry of Aviation Radio Missionary Service (ARMS) located in Greenville, SC, USA. The TFM radio broadcasts may be heard on the Harbour Light of the Windwards radio station in Carriacou, Grenada and on the Caribbean Radio Lighthouse in St. Johns, Antigua. Broadcasts may also be heard via the Harbour Light’s Internet streaming at http://www.harbourlightradio.org/streaming.htm.
TFM grew out of a need to provide ministerial training to pastors and Bible teachers that did not have the opportunity to obtain formal Bible instruction in a school. Randy Cornelius, current manager of the Harbour Light, communicated the need and encouraged me to consider creating a weekly program. Broadcasts began in 1991 and continue to the present. The Lord blessed the effort from the very beginning. Listeners wrote expressing appreciation for the practical instruction and asking for various teaching and preaching materials. God has supplied the finances, equipment, time, energy, and insights for the approximately 750 programs to date.
The programs are designed to fill a 15 minute programming slot at the radio stations which results in about 14 minutes and 45 seconds of actual air time. Programs currently begin and end with a short selection from “The Bible Stands” played by Abby Garland on piano and Margaret Johnson on violin. Bob Johansen is the announcer. I record the program audio in my home office using Cool Edit on a notebook computer and then add the musical beginning and ending. Completed programs are either uploaded to the station via the Internet on an ftp client or may be burned to a CD and sent via the postal system.
TFM uses a series approach to help listeners develop good study and Bible teaching habits. Most of the series have spanned four to six months or 20 to 30 programs. In recent years, we have studied the Beatitudes, I Peter, How to Do a Word Study, Biblical Missions, and Romans. Programs focus less on teaching the content of the particular book and more on how to use various tools and techniques to understand and teach the content. This approach makes TFM unique. Listeners can then use the tools to study any book or any portion of the Bible as the Lord leads them. They are not confined to simply repeating what they have heard on the broadcasts. Many of the weekly programs do conclude with a sample sermon or Bible study outline that can be used or modified by the listener.
